Congratulations! You now have 100,000 miles on your vehicle! How about a little trivia?

What car did General Motors claim was the first that could go 100,000 miles between tune ups? The 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva was that car and 1992 was not that long ago. The 100,000 mile service is a major service. Your next service will be the 105,000 Mile Service and some vehicles will require a timing belt, so be prepared for an expensive service next time in the shop. Not because Carolina Tire charges a lot for this service, it's the large amount of time that is required to perform this service that costs a lot.

This service generally involves an oil and filter change, tire rotation, and a safety inspection. While changing the oil, the mechanic will be performing visual inspections of the brakes, belts and hoses, inspecting for any fluid leaks, listening for any abnormal noises, and paying attention to any irregularities in the operation of the vehicle.

Possible Repairs Needed at the 100,000 Mile Service. It's not uncommon to start seeing the wear and tear items like the Drive Belts and Hoses, Motor Mounts and Suspension Bushings starting to show signs of wear. Oil leaks may start to appear as well. If your timing belt is replaced at this time, then it is a good time to consider replacing the water pump and timing belt tensioners at the same time. Depending on your vehicle, after 100,000 miles is when you really start seeing the benefits or pitfalls of proper maintenance. A vehicle properly maintained may need brakes or minor repairs, where as a vehicle that has been neglected can be confronted with repairs totaling in the thousands of dollars.

Your next service may be quite expensive, so we recommend not putting off repairs until next service if you wish to avoid a very large repair bill.

My Chevy Astro has 229,000+ miles on it and I have put 100,000 of those miles on myself.

So far I have replaced the alternator and serpentine belt on the side of the road myself, the fuel pump and thermostat were changed professionally, oil added and new tires.
